Is Your Cat On Heart Medication?

My cat was diagnosed with heart disease by one vet. We took him to a specialist today and it actually doesn't look like he has heart disease after all - he is just fine. A great example as to why to always get a second opinion even with your pet! So now I have a lot of medication that I won't need. It's Diltiazem 7.5mg compounded into chicken flavored treats. If your cat is currently on this medication I am happy to give them to you. I have about 80 of them left. The prescription was filled on 5/6 and the treats are good until 11/08. If all else fails I will give them to the vet - I thought that I would start here first and hopefully save someone some $$.

That's great news about your cat! Did they do an echo?

They did an echo at Prospect Park Veterinary Clinic two weeks ago and then yesterday they repeated it at Animal Medical Clinic. They said that my cat is just fine besides a low grade heart murmur and that I could discontinue meds at this time. PPAC has an outside company come and do the echos there. The vet at AMC (Dr. Bond) was amazing. She has been doing cardiology since 1978. She had a fantastic bedside manner and it was an all around positive experience - especially since we get to discontinue meds. Yay! We are going to continue with the low sodium diet anyway though due to the heart murmur.
