sjp315gspoke with the owners last week. Undergoing renovations for a month. Says it's going to be 'very different'. -
archesoh yeah, meant to post this yesterday. I walked by in the morning and they were pretty much taking out everything (shelves, counters, etc). So seems like they're starting fresh...which is good. -
carnivoreAwesome! I love that place. -
silveragerI have had a bad taste in my mouth about that place ever since the owner saw me hike up my pants and accused me of stealing from him. I emptied my pockets and he still didn't believe me. -
sjp315ghmm, that sucks that you were treated that way. Generally, I've found the owners to be friendly and pleasant. -
theburgerkingJust walked by there today. This is very good news, that place looked like it was in a third world country. -

They probably have had to deal with a lot of theft and are hyper-alert to any "suspicious" behavior. Not to excuse the way you were treated, but just to say that it's easy to understand how it can happen.
I've also always found the owners to be really nice. -
silveragerI was still very insulted as I had been a regular customer for over 10 years at the time. I've only gone back there once since (emergency beer run as the bodega on lincoln & underhill has no more liquor license), and the guy remembered me and could not look me in the eye. -
carnivoreJust walked by, and the inside is being totally gutted. The place is going to be all new inside. Now I wonder if they're going to spruce up the outside as well... -

Did the get rid of those evil sagging shelves full of old products in the window? That and the graffitti were the two biggest eyesores, IMO. -
carnivoreIt's completely gutted. -
brooklynbubbaAre they changing the selection to organic? Think I heard that somewhere. -

I hope not all their stuff. I mean it's nice to have fancy stuff, but a neighborhood store has to have the basics. -
archesMaybe they'll put it back to the way it was....minus the horse...though that would be cool too...until it got smelly.

-
