Family in town wants to go to a tapas place in Park Slope. Any recommendations? I've never even gone to a tapas place so I have no idea. Thanks.

For small Asian fusion plates of grilled shrimp, vegetable dumplings, fresh roti crepes with a sweet dipping sauce, and salads, Mango is good:

i haven't yet had great tapas in park slope. i had high hopes about tapeo on 5th ave & bergen - they have a huge selection of organic beers and wines - and i was impressed with their vegetarian selection. however, when i finally went there, i was extremely disappointed by the food quality. my boyfriend and I ordered a bunch of things. i know tapas are supposed to be small portions, but these were TINY - definitely not worth the $$.

In agreement with Shamirpower that there are no good Spanish tapas in PS in my opinion. I would go to Boqueria or Casa Mono (Union Square area) - easy to get there. Lunch at Boqueria during the week is great - sandwich with Catalan sausage, goat cheese, olive tapenade, salad, and patatas bravas plate is the best.

Tia Pol is highly rated and yummy too but all these are outside the neighborhood.

I did however try Euro Trip on 5th and 19th and I enjoyed it. Sat at the bar and orderd 4-5 smaller plates of eastern European yummies - grilled sausage, perogis, dumplings, pepper dip.

Let us know if you do find good tapas around here.

I agree that there is a lack of Spanish tapas in Park Slope. There are several Asian influenced restaurants that have huge selections of small plates. If you're looking for true tapas, you will find them in Manhattan.

    Hey folks.

I happen to like the food at Cafe tapeo. And all too often we see complaints about pricing of food in the neighborhood and people are disappointed to see places closing down such as Tea Lounge.

Try not to blame the business owners for their pricing BLAME the greedy landlords and the city for raising property taxes. Its a sorry truth but business are just about surviving in this neighborhood too.

Cafe Tapeo has great happy hr specials. Monday night is happy hr all night. This week its only $10 bucks for 3 tapas and their drink prices are reasonable all the time.

    Think about that!

Piero, I can confirm that post came from your same IP address. Is it possible that someone else has access to your computer? I wouldn't rule out "hacking" or a glitch of some sort, but we haven't really seen anything like that on Brooklynian, yet... I'll go ahead and delete the post in question.

according to menupages, Beast is listed as having tapas...(on vanderbilt and bergen)

i've never been there for food, but the bar is pretty cool. tried going for brunch one sunday and couldn't get a table, but the food did look delish! If I hadn't been so hungry (or impatient) I would have waited. i plan on checking it out soon though!

anyone have any reviews on Beast and their potential tapas menu?

We love Tapeo. Their portions are small but the prices aren't terrible, and with any of the tapas you can double the portion for another $3 which is a great deal, in my opinion. And they are tapas portions, they are supposed to be small. That's why you order lots of different things to try different tastes. They average between $6-$10.

I have to agree with Bergenites, I only went to Cafe Tapeo once, but really enjoyed it. And the happy hour specials are a good deal.

I've been to cafe tapeo ... with the owners and chefs of beast.

    1. beast is definitely a multi-size plate joint. ask your server about portions before ordering. some items are tiny, some items are gigantic ... and they could be priced similarly. the menu is vaguely problematic that way. however, I have never regretted a meal there - love their food and wine.

    2. cafe tapeo was a total let down. I hadn't been intending to eat there - was on my way to total, actually - but ended up going in b/c I ran into the chefs and owners of beast (and their friends/family) and we tried it out. none of us were pleased. we all tried each others selections and none of us wished we'd ordered what someone else had, nor did we want our own plates of food. I haven't been back - maybe will give them another try if they persevere. for now, I'm not interested. simple tapas are not difficult.

Olea in Ft. Greene, at Lafayette & Adelphi, offers some tapas that actually resemble real Spanish tapas & taste like them too. They also serve Mediterranean-inspired sandwiches & other things. It's an attractive space.

One more vote for Cafe Tapeo. Their foods are good, prices not so bad. People there are nice too.
