Help please. My mother-in-law is coming to see our new apartment and take me out to lunch this Thursday. We live in North Slope and I really need a good restaurant (she is Italian and knows good food) that is not too far away because she has recently had hip surgery and is having a knee replacement in a few weeks. She wants to see our place before the surgery so please, any suggestions would be helpful.
Just remember not too far (we live on Bergen and 5th) and good food please. Thanks, in advance. :)

You have a multitude of choices on Bergen & 5th... Melt, Alchemy and Pepperoncino are all good places for lunch, and within the block. I believe all are open for lunch during the week.

    LOL, good one.

I second Melt for a quiet nice place for lunch. I love their kobe burger and tuna tartar.

brooklynpotter, I thought the same thing, and was about to respond, "only if you take mine!"

I just wanted to say thanks for the recommedations. I am new to N. Slope and have wanted to try these places, but haven't had the time...I go to school nights and work a lot. Glad to hear they are open during the day.

I love the mother-in-law insights. I'll keep mine for now. She may be loud, etc. sometimes, but she is also fun, enjoys the booze (midafternoon or otherwise) and pays for the meal. What more could I ask for?

in that case, I think Alchemy may have been just what the doctor ordered....
