old time brooklyn
That I've only been to Taro once in three years since moving here. I had lunch there today and it was amazing. So fresh. Now I'll go weekly, daily if need be.

mixergirlI used to live around the corner. Amazing sushi. Get the spicy tuna hand roll. Melts in your mouth. -

apollonia666Asparagus tempura sushi ftw! -
idlewildLast week he had uni flown in from Hokkaido. Really, really delicious. You should also try the baby eel or fried eel bones when they're available. -

Quite frankly, I'm scared to tell you. -
doctorjI still prefer Gen, on price, quality, atmosphere, service. -
old time brooklynTaro isn't a great place to sit and eat at, no. Quality is off the charts though. -
old time brooklynWe sat last night and closed the place. Insanely good. Their Mountain Roll rules all rolls. And their deluxe sashimi plate is crazy. -

alafairnadiaI've only been twice (shockingly !! both times with Idlewild, once with an accompanying Carnivore) and have had the chef's tasting menu both times. totally worth the money. and I'm not a raw food person (aside from my oyster thing). delicious. I have a bar to judge other high end places against. -

old time brooklynTaro serves the badass version of mackerel huh? The raw kind? I never ate mackerel at a sushi restaurant until Taro and it was really really good. I ordered it elsewhere and got the more common marinated/cooked version, not so good. I guess mackerel spoils instantly so it has to be super fresh and sent to the table quickly. Pretty cool. -
sneakyonstmarksOTB, you are really missing Gen, they have the best lunch specials, 80 percent of the patrons are Japanese so to me that means that they are good. Try the Yakiniku, the Sukiyaki, the Mackarel there is pretty good too. Their Gomae ea is one of the best in the city. On Stmarks and Washington, i eat there 3 to 4 lunches a week. -

I'm glad you brought up Gen (not to change the subject)- I went there and while the food was good, very good, the image of all the flies buzzing around the place while we were there....kinda just grosses me out.
Sneaky- is this standard? Flies? Everywhere? -
sneakyonstmarksYes indeed, every place that has an out door has flies, you go and drink at Franklin Park where you are drinking and eating almost next to a garbage can, people go to drink out door at Barrette where there a big public garbage can next to them and then you have all the dust and shit blowing from the avenue and the street, people eat out doors at soda,, so it seems to me that a fly at Gen is no big deal. -

No, I mean inside. It was really bad- there were a lot- trying to land on our food and shit. I felt like we were outside! -
sneakyonstmarkshaahaa, the food is great, maybe that is their secret ingredient?
