Ants!

Ok, now that I live in a ground floor garden apartment, I have all kinds of new visitors.

Ants are the latest. All over the dry cat food in the kitchen (where the door to the yard is). I have to leave cat food out for the kitties.

I bought some Orange Guard today and saturated the doorway, but they are out in full force today.

Suggestions?

go out in the garden and follow the ants back to their nest and nuke them there with some chemicals.

Well, armchair is on the right track.

In addition to the stuff you bought to spray in the areas you see them or see them coming in (Orange Guard, in your case), you can buy another sort of poison bait to put down along whatever outside perimeter of the house you have, which the ants take back to the colony to nuke all of them, including the queen.

Ask yer hardware store. Might be complicated with cats or other animals, though.

To protect the kitty food while solving the ant problem, sit the food dish in a plate or pie pan filled with water. Add one or two drops of dish detergent (dawn, ivory or joy). The ants will not reach the food, they will drown in the water.

I have used talcum powder to combat ants when I didn't too favor the smell of using the sprays...worked like magic
