Red Hot Returning!

So there's been some activity at the site of the former Red Hot at 7th and 10th over the last few days. Here's what I've been able to find out:

It's coming back as a Chinese restaurant, but I don't know the name. They are hoping to open in a couple of weeks. One of the former employees is bringing back most of the old crew. Their rent is going to be about $12,000 per month. They are thinking about setting up tables outside, which would be a really nice touch.

I hope they're successful, we don't have any good Chinese restaurants around. Patronize them, people, $12,000 is a lot of General Tsao's.

Great news. But good grief, what a rent!

What was the old rent, again? 12K sounds like a ton of cash, but I've no idea as to the typical commercial rent in prime(ish) Park Sope.

Oh man-I hope that happens and they have the same cooks! But, 12k a month? Holy crap!

Previous rent was about half, I believe.

Holy crap! Are you kidding? Rent is 12K then there is food, insurance, electric, phone and whatever else to run a business. Crazy.

Will they still have the guy outside my door with the food as I'm hanging up the phone?

I love Red Hot and hope they succeed, but $12,000 is bull crap. I'm sorry, but Park Slope's 7th Avenue does not get enough traffic to demand rent fees that high. 7th Avenue is not a 24/7 area.

The closure of Red Hot forced us to try Hunan Delight the other night and we felt it was miles better than anything we ever got at Red Hot. Pretty fast delivery too.

    Anyone else agree?

I liked Red Hot when I first moved to PS about 10 years ago, but it started to go down hill about 3 years ago. Lately I've ordered from Hunan Delight and we think it is good. It is also a good place to eat in - very nice service.

who can afford the rents down here? seriously... what kind of tenants do they think they will attract? (and if we lose olive vine because of a rent hike--no foreshadowing, just an obvious worry--then heads are going to roll.)

They could double their prices to meet the doubling of the Rent. It would still be worth it. I miss their hot and sour soup. I miss their Lo Mein. I miss the fact that I used to order my food and be able to set my table and sit down to eat 2 minutes later.

Heard they were going to re-open, new owner, same chef, small increase in prices. Info obtained from guys working on the outside of the restaurant.

They say they're opening this week, when exactly I didn't see. Prices are up, comparable with other Chinese places in the neighborhood. The old lunch special is not on the take-out menu. If that's gone I'm sad.
