Gloria's is great too- and much cheaper than Islands.
They have two locations: both on Nostrand Ave.- one on corner of Empire (south of EP), and the other's north of EP, but I forget the cross street.

The other Gloria's is on the SW corner of Nostrand and Sterling. And as long as we are on things right next to me, for Trinidad roti go no where but Glenda's, just east of Nostrand on the south side of St Johns. Trini style chinese is good at the place whose name I can't remember just north of the bodega on the NW corner of Nostrand and St Johns. And they have good bread. Vege doesn't get better than Ital Shak, which is between St Johns and Sterling on the west side of Nostrand.

If you are looking for a good west indian restaurant to dine in, enjoy the ambience, good music, live bands, beautiful garden , good drinks , good atmosphere, nothing beats Sugar Cane on Flatbush and Bergen in my opinion.Food is delicious and drinks are awesome, especially the sorrel punch.

If you are looking for a good west indian restaurant for takeout, then nothing beats Exquisite on Nostrand Ave and Prospect Place. The place for good rotis, especially the boneless chicken roti, and good hot bread made daily, then the Trini restaurant called Golden Palace on Nostrand Ave off St Johns Place is the place to go.

This is the trini style chinese I mentioned in my post whose name I couldn't recall. And the bread is fantastic! And did I mention cheap?

    Subject: Islands on Washington

All food made to order while you wait. There is a tiny seating area upstairs, but it's really just a kitchen, but delicious. Jerk chicken is oh so deliciously spicy.

you can get doubles at Ali's Roti Shop on Fulton right by Nostrand. There is also a place called Doubles King on Nostrand right before Fulton.

Ital Shak seems to have shut down by the health department. (Wah!) But there are other vegetarian Caribbean restaurants nearby, such as Imhotep's. There is also one near Ital Shak which name escapes me. It's a *tiny* hole in the wall, but I once had the BEST lima bean stew there.

I want to chime in about the Islands. That place rocks my socks. Stop by and pick up some carryout sometime, chat with the owner while she cooks your meal (she's delightful), and try going on a Sunday afternoon sometime to pick up some of their bread pudding before it's all sold out. NUM!

I just had a shrimp dhalpourie roti from Ali's and it was bangin! YUM!
Doubles King is at Macon and Nostrand. Doubles are great but don't get the saltfish there its too salty.
Best ital is Imhotep on Nostrand.
edited because I forgot to mention Melanie's on Fulton right by Nostrand. All kinds of Trini food. Alot of vegetarian and a great juice bar.
