Should I be freaking out about bed bugs at work?

I am trying to calm myself down, but I am seriously afraid of bed bugs -- I dealt with them last year and the end result was moving, after spending tons of money to try and get rid of them, ruining most of my clothes in the dryer, a slight additction to sleeping pills, three martinis a day weight gain and now almost a year in my new place I still have recurring nightmares, post-traumatic stress and a great fear of those fuckers.

OK so then I hear throught the rumor mill that a client was visiting last week - nonprofit agency - and the social worker saw some bed bugs crawling up the wall to her office by the client. She killed them and told the client he could not come back until he was bed bug free. An exterminator came Tuesday and sprayed her office and adjoining offices. BUT hello, they could have travled and laid eggs elsewhere in those days in between and my office is the floor below, nearly underneath hers.

What's the likelihood? Should I stop freaking out? Should I leave right now, strip naked outside my door, shower and drink three martinis with an ambien? Mm actually that does sound kinda good...........

I wouldn't worry. Keep your space clean and home clean. If it makes you feel better get some bed bug spray from your local hardware supplies store and spray the corners of the walls at work to create a barrier.

You have more to fear from the subways and the platform benches.

I wouldn't worry. I know it is making you freak out but you can't live in fear. There is actually nothing you can do about it so you can either choose to worry, or choose to not worry.

    Yes.
Sprays don't always work. Keep checking seams in fabrics for that tell tale rusty stain.
Hope you don't get em, they're persistant lil buggers!

Yes you should worry. But worrying and moving places and throwing things will help you in no way. You should deal with them strictly. You can even call a PCO to get some solutions.

Seriously, and I mean no disrespect, but if you're beginning to stay in the house out of fear, you need to get yourself to a therapist, pronto. One who deals with agoraphobia and addiction.

It's OK to be cautious, but it's not OK to be afraid of stuff you have absolutely no control over and let it run your life. This isn't about bedbugs, which you can't get merely by going outside. Don't let this get completely out of control and take over your life, especially if you are mixing sleeping pills and alcohol.

you may even call for professionals to to get rid of the bedbugs and they will surely help you to eradicate the bugs from your house so that you may live in peace. Sleeping pills will get you no where as they will not stop the bugs from biting you. They will only help you to have a good sleep while the bugs continue to have a feast of your blood. You can check [the site I obviously work for] for help.

Well, thankfully I did not bring any home with me and have now been bedbug free for over a year! I don't doubt that I need therapy for post traumatic stress disorder, but that shit is expensive! Is did take over my life. For a period. At least I am armed with all the knowledge I could ever want so as to protect myself in the future. And the sleeping pills and drinks were during the war, not after. Although, I do like my cocktails!

oh shit of course I didn't click on the link until now. Yup total f ing shill to make me try and relive a nightmare? What a jackass.

There was just a very interesting article in one of the papers about how exterminators specializing in bbs are not seeing a crash in the economy because people are paying so much. $250 an hour for a bed bug sniffing beagle!
