Brooklyn Paper - going under?

edited November -1 in The Lounge / Random Stuff
Some would say that the recent rash of posting on the message board Brooklynian is an ominous sign for the once thriving Brooklyn periodical. A poster going by the handle AWP11201 has posted thirteen new threads in a single hour consisting of direct cut and pastes of the leading line and a link to the paper's website. Some might call this shilling, and an obvious attempt to drum up readership for what may quite possibly be a failing website and a leading indicator of the end of a Brooklyn institution.

Or not.

What does AWP11201 have to say about all this?
Is that not allowed?
Further comment was unavailable at this time, as more new threads were being copied from the Brooklyn Paper's headlines.

More on (moron?) this breaking story as it progresses.

I think that Gowanus Lounge and Curbed and Gawker should pick up on this.

    And the Daily News.

I smell blood in the water! (although it made me snarf...)

Now I feel badly for referencing a Brooklyn Paper article in a ProHo post that I made earlier today. Eek.

don't! that's a legitimate reference, rather than a spammy reference!

    whoa. holy cow.

I guess I don't mind anyone coming on here and promoting the OCCASIONAL blog post or newspaper article, but 13 in 2 hours might get a comment or two from the regulars. I'd also like to see the plug be more substantial, like "here's a little bit about the topic," rather than "look at me! click my link."

I guess I'm also a little torn about this coming from Brooklyn Paper. Dana and some of the reporters do a fine job, and treat Brooklynians with respect and equanimity. Editorially, BP has talked down to Brooklynian, generalized, and characterized its denizens in ways that at least a few Brooklynians found offensive.

Call me old fashioned, but I still like to read "The Paper." (Remember that awful commercial? )
I'll pick up the Brooklyn Paper, and I like the specificity of it. With all these blogs and message boards, there's bound to be some overlap, especially if they're covering the same ground. I don't know if they're shilling, but y'know they're not making any more money from it. They either get a paycheck, or they don't. I'd prefer to keep that paper afloat.

One hour, not two for the thirteen plugs.

    Your math powers are failing.

I think it may be your new avatar.

Just don't start telling us about the 57 US states you have visited.

I'm one of the many freelancers that hasn't been paid in over a year by the BP. Anyone else out there wanting to join forces and fight for our cash?
