Hair Salon for a Woman of a Certain Age

Can anyone recommend a salon in PS that is friendly and non-intimidating? My mother-in-law is in search of a good place, and won't do well with a place that is fancy/hip.

    I know several elderly people that go to Creative Hair and Spa on 9th st bet. 5th and 6th ave, closer to 5th ave.

    I've never been but I don't think it's too fancy/hip.

    How about Joseph's on 7th Avenue near Union Street? It's a regular plain old hair salon.

    She might also like Rompal on 6th Avenue and 3rd Street. it's a nail/skin care salon, but, it's not too fancy schmancy. the hairdresser is there on Thursday, Friday and Saturday only. but, whenever my mother visits (she is 64), she goes there to get her hair done and likes it.

    How about Eve's (former Mario) on 5th ave and 6th street I think.. Ask for Evelyn..I have gotten my hair cut there for a long time... she is a really nice lady and especially if you are clear on what you want (bring a picture) she can do it.. I remember 15 years ago.. I brought her a pic of Amy Irving in a cut I thought would work. She got it exactly.It was really a classic for curly hair and I wore that style for a long time.

    Rompal is a very good suggestion as well.
