Saw this on craigslist, curious what place it is. (and no, I am not shilling for the seller)

most unfortunate, but they never seemed to have any business. i wouldn't generalize from one experience, but i got a sandwich there once and the bread was completely stale (and it was not cheap). not a good sign. still, sorry they couldn't make a go of it. hope someone else does.

No prob, anyone who buys it simply has to put in wood paneling, stop selling Drake's and Hostess, instead substitute Odwalla and organic cookies (while tripling the prices on everything else), name the market something like "Nantucket Harvest" and VOILA!!!!! Instant moneymaker.

Don't think so. They've got to do a lot better than that to pay the rent in that location.

    Just walking around today...
Is Vanderbilt becoming a ghost town again?
I thought things were turning around?
Juene's is leaving (big for rent sign)
the place next door still not rented
Memories out of the box is relocating
and that juice bar will it ever open?
    All in just a block....
Just sad...I live in the neighborhood and it sad to see places go like that...

I think that Vanderbilt is doing just fine. Quite a few businesses have opened during the past few years and more are on the way, such as the Italian restaurant near Le Gamin.

One strip that I have to admit is quickly amassing empty storefronts is Flatbush Avenue. In the past, I thought such statements were exaggerated, but now I concede the point.

There used to be a Butcher on Vaderbilt between Prospect and Park used to shop there when i was a kid. But i don't think it would work, how many steaks and pork chops would they have to sell to pay these rents? Another Pizzeria might work.

    It's a small space, but..
I know someone who checked out the space where Brooklyn Pizza Factory currently resides; they looked at it last winter. For that railroad space—there is also a tiny but usable garden (does the pizza place use it?)—they were asking $2800/mo. and a commitment for 5 years, with <10% rent increase per year. They mentioned that there was copious storage in the basement.

I said the same thing in the Jeune's thread. Without knowing the price.
