Restaurant Recommendations near GAP

Hello. I've already read through the best and most overrated restaurant threads on this board, and unless I've missed it, I still need help finding certain things.

I'm moving to the neighborhood next month, and will be living on Plaza Street. One of the things I'm going to miss from my current neighborhood is knowing all the best places to eat/get delivery from. Here's what I'm looking for within delivery distance of Grand Army Plaza:

Pizza: Olive Vine and La Villa seem to be favorites from what I've read elsewhere, so I look forward to giving them a try.

Chinese: I've read Szechuan Delight is good. Any other recommendations in the immediate area?

Diner: This is the most important. Is there a really good no-frills diner around the Grand Army Plaza area that delivers? Some weekends I just can't get motivated to get out early, and would love some breakfast (or maybe really late night burgers) delivered. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
-anthony

    diner: the usual on vandy

you may want to run a search on some of these things, as there's lots of previous discussion.

    do the PH board, too.

Here are a few places very close to GAP on the north end of 7th Avenue...

La Taqueria on 7th and Berkeley
Oshima (sushi) on 7th and Berkeley (SOOO delicious!)
Mr. Wonton on 7th and Berkeley
Chiles and Chocolate (Oaxacan) on 7th and Lincoln
and yes...Olive Vine on 7th and Lincoln

Some of these have been mentioned, but here are some more options:

The Usual on Vanderbilt - as mentioned, no frills diner
Amorina - Fantastic pizza in a very relaxed setting
Frannys - while a bit more expensive than amorina it is highly regarded and very good
Beast - Tapas and a great place for a burger
Le Gamin - French bistro, very welcoming
Wing Wagon - great buffalo chicken wrap/sandwich
Geido - Very good, fresh sushi, inexpensive
Mitchell's - great sandwiches (they have a dining area, but it's rarely full)
Mango - Good thai (Song is better, but we're talking north slope)

big fan of delivery from Joe's Pizza on 7th Ave near Carroll,
Lemongrass Grill thai on 7th Ave,
Zaytoons on Vandy--not amazing but I could live off of the garlic bread app. alone!

Thinking about trying Franny's one of these days - is it as good as everyone claims? The prices seem very high for pizza, but if it's great I'm sure it is worth it.

i think franny's is great and worth the price.

another place i love is roma pizza at 7th and union...

obviously very different ends of the spectrum for pizza, but sometimes you just want the greasy kind...

In the end, other than what's on Vanderbilt or Underhill, there really isn't anything I can think of that can be considered NEAR GAP. This is beginning to sound like a "where do you like to go in the entire vicinity of Park Slope and Prospect Heights?" post.

Near GAP, i'd say India Palace, Amorina, and Christie's. :)

I really enjoy Cafe Shane. Love their frittata, home fries and french toast. YUM!

i don't know if it's already been said, but i just remembered there's the park cafe (i think that's the name?) right on 7th between berkeley and union. they might be a good close place for diner type food/burger, etc. i've only had their omelets and they were good.

i always forget about that place. maybe because it's been under/near that scaffolding which seems like it will never go away.

between that and the fire victim building across that street, that block really is the ugly stepchild of the beautiful north slope...

These recs are for extreme North Slope and are all no more than ~5 min walk from Plaza St:

    Seventh Ave:
    Chiles y Chocolate
    Olive Vine
Mango (but ONLY for their garlic seitan, which is to die for)

    Flatbush:
Christie's Jamaican Patties (really just for take out cravings)

A little further afield on Flatbush:
    Joy Indian
    Franny's
Yummy Taco (I only get their bean curd dishes)

There's also a cool-looking Japanese place on Flatbush. I always mean to check it out but always forget.

    Another vote for

    Taqueria
Olive Vine - good falafal, great hummus and lentil soup, haven't tried the pizza but I will now that I've heard these recs
Park Cafe - haven't been here for dinner, but breakfast is good
    Franny's - really great, but doesn't deliver

Pino's pizzeria on 7th and 2nd delivers to my building, which is on the PH corner of Flatbush and Plaza St.

El Gran Castillo on 7th and Flatbush makes a good Cuban sandwich.

City Sub on Bergen between 5th and Flatbush is great. They don't deliver, but you can call for pick up, which is nice if you're in a hurry, as the lines can get long.

For bagels, I like Bagel Delight on 7th between Carroll and President. And you can't beat Joyce (on Vanderbilt) for croissants.

I love the souvlaki and the spinach at Mr. Felafel, at the corner of 3rd St and 7th Avenue. They also deliver.

    Subject: Thanks!

Thanks for all the recommendations. I actually grabbed a sandwich tonight at City Subs, and it was really good. I look forward to trying some of the others soon.
