The Long Shadow of Atlantic Yards

WNYC did an interesting story this morning about those who live in the footprint of the proposed Atlantic Yards project. It's a nice snapshot of the diversity--architecturally and humanly--that will likely be lost. Plus, who knew there was a tofu factory there?

Slightly off topic, but tonight I'm going to play around to see if I can generate a shadow map of Miss Brooklyn over the surrounding areas.

I'll report back if I come up with anything.

Ok, if you go to the link above, and change the url to miss_brooklyn_1.html (jan), or miss_brooklyn_12.html (dec), you can see how the shadows change during the course of a day.

I was kind of surprised to see that the building wouldn't block out the sun for Prospect Heights or Park Slope. It terms of literally living in its shadow, Fort Green and Clinton Hill are the ones with the raw deal.
