anyone know someone who can install a flat screen tv??

hi, pc richards charges 399 for installation.

ridiculous.

anyone know a good handyman or anyone else who might be able to install a small-ish flat screen tv to the wall. i won't be hiding the cables behind the wall, but rather would like to cover them externally with one of those pieces of white plastic.

i'm willing to pay around 200 bucks. seems more than fair, for what should not be a terribly complicated job...

i'm off all next week and would like to find someone who can do it then.

Just a warning - depending on the construction of your walls, it might be a more complicated job than you imagine... when we tried to put up a TV in our old apartment we ended up having to put concrete into the wall to support it...

i hope that's not the case with mine.

this is a small tv, and brownstone walls. they seem sturdy to me, since even putting in a nail sometimes bends it...

perhaps it is more complicated, but i'm not willing to spend half what the tv cost to install it.

most people have said it's a do-it-yourself job and while i'm fairly handy, this is one thing i'd just rather pay to have done properly.

I agree with you on that - I think there was quite a few recommendations for someone on the brownstoner forum a while back - try a search there


PS I had mine installed onto a brick wall and did the same thing with the wires (i.e., hiding them under the plastic tubing) but I purchased my TV from PC Richard and they only charged me $150 for installation.

yeah, i bought my tv at pc richards, but at the time didn't think i wanted it on the wall.

now a year later, they want 399. too much when the mount is like 80 bucks plus the 399.

I have a hunky boyfriend who hung our tv and is going to hang mine for me as well...but he just wall mounted it, didn't run wires or anything.

belzjm, if you are putting the tv up on a brick wall ("bends nails"), be aware that special drill bits and substantial strength will be needed to put appropriate holes in that wall. Whoever does the job should be familiar with installations into masonry.

I had a guy hang my tv and he only charged me $60. I had already purchased the mount, but he also had relatively inexpensive mounts that he would use. I highly recommend him. His name was Adam and his number is 917-504-1782. The prices those big places charge are ridiculous. It's not that complicated of a procedure!

I am sitting here trying to imagine the need to pour concrete into a wall to support a tv. Sounds like an easy way out with more trouble down the line. I could be wrong and am interested the scenario.

Is Adam an all around handy man too? I need one, shirtless or not!

she wasn't actually there where now dh (then boyfriend) had the tv installed... They had to put cement into the wall to hold the TV because the plaster wasn't strong enough to support. It was a PITA when we moved and had to remove the tv (the mount was almost impossible to get out)
