I've got so many mixed feelings on this sort of thing (unlike most other issues  ):
The powerful LGBT rights group has called for a boycott of Heinz products following the decision to pull the ad. Director Ben Summerskill has blasted Heinz decision as discriminatory. He questioned the ethics of purchasing and working for a company that would ban such an advertisement, and urged ethical consumers to contact the company.
Stonewall Urges Boycott of Heinz After Gay Advert Pulled from TV

I mean, on the one hand, I can totally understand boycotting the company for pulling the ad. But on the other hand, might it be better to boycott all the companies that wouldn't even _try_ such an ad? Is not Heinz probably more progressive than most for even taking a stab at it? Despite the fact that they pulled back after the outcry, perhaps it would be good to encourage this sort of thing. On the other hand, do we really want to see advertising targeted to the LBGT community? Is this ultimately a good thing? Anyway. 42.

wait, teh gayz are supposed to LIKE that ad?

i don't get that. if anything, i find it a bit ugh to see that the guy making sandwiches is "mum" and that the kiss is the punchline of the joke. it's better than if the punchline were the two of them freaking out or something, but still.

subaru makes ads targeted to LGBT (or at least LGB...not so sure about T, actually). they don't rely on thinking that two men together is weird.
