I've been to Olea twice. The first time everything was absolutely fabulous, the second time there were problems with a couple of dishes. But not such big problems that I wouldn't go back. The service was really good both times.

I've never been to Cafe Lafayette, sorry.

Co-sign on Olea. Brunch is good and they have great bloody marys. They sometimes have happy hour deals during the week, like $1 oysters etc.

I also just mentioned this in another thread but the General Greene is a new one - just ate there tonight. Very promising.

I really love Cafe Layfayette- in fact, me and another Brooklynian went there on Saturday. Food is consistent (I really love the menu, very reasonable), staff is friendly. I really like the indoor area (during the fall/winter time)- its cozy and romantic.

Its BYOB, which is cool. On Saturday, we went next door to Habana Outpost and got frozen mojitos and drank them at the Cafe! Nice...

Olea was pretty good, but I their sangria was disappointing (no fruit!). The garlic shrimp was delicious, but the falafel-crusted artichokes were dry and flavorless.

I went to Pequena the other night for the first time and loved it. The food was very fresh (they even make their own tortilla chips), and the sangria was excellent. We also had the guacamole, black bean soup, shrimp & avocado salad and fried fish tacos. All were excellent.

I really like Olea, and Cafe Lafayette is pleasant enough.

But Abistro is still my favorite restaurant in Fort Greene.

i've never been to cafe lafayette, but I love Olea. Its a good place to get a nice dinner at a reasonable price. The only problem I have there is they are often out of some of their menu items.

olea seems hit-or-miss. some of their flavor combos are very weird, other dishes are bland... and a couple of things are really good. i had given up on the place, but was convinced to give it another try recently. the shrimp appetizer was delicious and flavorful, the branzino was good enough... i'll give it another try.

cafe lafayette, i think of the salads, burgers, and crepes. they've all been good enough, but to me its that kind of place, not one where i'd order a rack of lamb or a salmon dish.

olea is my absolute favorite spot in the neighborhood. i don't generally order the entree's though ... sharing tapas with friends and then maybe a salad is my MO. the alomond stuffed / bacon wrapped dates are heaven on a toothpick. the staff is always lovely and the manager always makes me feel so welcomed. i wish they had better outdoor seating though.

another place i really loved was liquors at 219 delkab (kif is now there, have yet to try it). they closed to renovate but never opened back up .. what happened to them?
