*** WARNING about SUNSHINE CAT CAFE ***

I do not use this brand usually and bought it at a bodega as I ran out of the regular dry food I buy in bulk.

I gave it to my cats and the next day they got sick, vomiting at least a dozen time between them through out the day.

8 of 9 feral cats I am working with in my yard straight refused to eat it.

It is a bright yellow 6 lb.bag.
Cat Cafe is written in orange and red letters.

I am not making allegations of the food being tainted, bad or in any other condition. I am reporting my observations of 10 cats either refusing to eat or getting sick after consumption of said product.

My sister lost her cat last year as a result of that scam. I am very cautious about what they eat. Some house cats 'trust' their keepers and will blindly eat what is put before them, as one of mine does. Therefor, I am doing my civic duty and posted this as a precaution to those owners.

mantic, thank you so much for posting this. I've been buying that stuff for my strays, some of them eat it but some won't. I'll switch to something else just to be on the safe side.

cats often don't do well if you suddenly shift from a food they've been eating for a while to something entirely new. usually it is recommended to mix in the new food in increasing amount over a period of days to weeks. so before assuming the Sunshine cat food company is mixing ground glass into their food, perhaps this is the reason the cats are barfing?

I confer with your point, however, I based my observations that something is wrong with the food when 8 of 9 street cats sniffed it and kept it moving. This is the first time all summer they have refused to eat anything I have given them amongst the assortment of cat foods and scraps. The oddball in that bunch ate a few mouthfuls and quit.
My two house cats ate it through. They both got sick. One is a goat and has a cast iron stomach. Eats everything. Corn on the cob (he wont eat canned corn), string beans, pancakes (no syrup), doritoes, mac & cheese and moths are among his favorites.

Who said anything about ground glass? That was quite a leap!

Many strays who are really hungry will eat anything (not sure if these are strays who are being fed regularly).

Either way, the fact that so many got sick was a good indication that there is something "off" about the food....maybe a bad batch or just that the ingredients are sub-par.

The manufacturer of this cat food is Sunshine Mills. They recalled their dog biscuits during the food scare.

You really shouldn't feed any cat a brand of food where the bag costs $2.99. It's pretty much flavored cardboard. Even feral cats would be better off trying to hunt food on their own versus eating this food. This is setting the boy kitties up for urinary crystals and blockages without a doubt. If you want ideas for good and inexpensive food to feed your feral cat colony or stray cats then PM me.

I don't want to sound like a prick, but frankly, you get what you pay for.

Any bag that big for that cheap is full of fillers and chemicals that are NEVER good for a pet (dog, cat or otherwise).

By spending a little more on food you can avoid spending lots on vet bills and of course the greatest cost - your pet's life. Also, a good food that has no filler will last longer because you don't need to feed as much per meal, and the price comes pretty close to balancing out.

I pay $11 per bag for my dog's food and am thinking of upgrading to something of higher quality. Even though I'm a student with nothing more than a part-time retail job supplying my meager cash flow.

Well, I stumbled upon this webpage after noticing my cat was drinking more water and was showing signs of CRF (kidney failure). I don't have the cat cafe with this same bag though. Mine was white and green and was $1.99. Though this is a new bag, this same brand was on the pet food recall last year. I had no idea.

I switched his food yesterday and am making sure he's hydrated. He seems to be ok and I think I caught it early enough.

I WOULD NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FEED THIS TO AN ANIMAL. EXCEPT MAYBE RATS.

We should feel fortunate that we can afford to buy our pets the quality food most of us do. Or buy food for ourselves even, for that matter.

FWIW - Cat Cafe is up to $7 a bag it seems from quick googling.
