You definitely have to have it.

Mine was pretty cheap, about $250 a year or so. Don't remember how much it covered. You just want to protect yourself with liability insurance, and to pay for your stuff should a fire gut the place. To that end, take a high deductible and don't use it unless you really need to.

allstate. up to $2000 per item in or outside the apt. plus like, relocation fees up to $30,000 and stuff... you can change it to suit your needs.

it's confusing.. mine was $280 the first year then it dropped to $230 the second year and i think it keeps dropping.

I have Amica and pay about $300. I think mine may be a bit more because I opted for additional computer coverage.

It's insanely cheap for the peace of mind you get. Do it immediately. I use State Farm, but any major carrier should do. Use the Yellow Pages; they typically can do everything over the phone and cover you *that day* if you pay by credit card.

you can also call Geico, which is what I did both as a renter and now as an owner. I'm very lazy. and enjoy not being worried. my renters insurance, in Harlem and here in Pheights, was always around $250/year and generally covered personal property as well, like a purse.

    GET RENTER'S INSURANCE!!

I have it for around $250 per year. I had it when I was robbed (while living in Long Island City) and it was so helpful. My electronics were replaced and I got money for my stolen jewelry. I don't know about other companies, but my insurance covers things like food spoilage during blackouts.
