Decent liquor store in FG?

Does anyone know of a decent liquor store in Fort Greene? I just came back from the place on Fulton and Ashland, and it's really subpar. The shelves were all half-empty and the selection was between bad or worse (and I by no means am a liquor snob). I'm content drinking the cheap stuff but when my choice is between watermelon vodka or banana rum I have to draw the line.

Any other liquor stores that anyone knows of in the area?

it could have been empty because i think they are preparing for a move 1 block away diagonally across fulton to fulton and st felix, i believe. that's the storefront with the boarded up plywood front.

have you tried places on dekalb?

i went to this one place on vanderbilt and myrtle that was fairly decent. but you have to order thru the plexiglass, a la chinese take out style. incidentally enough, the owner of that place is chinese too. smart man, must be making a fortune off the neighborhood and the pratt students.

so if you're willing to trek it, you can find other choices. also, how about the one on myrtle across from the whitman/ingersoll houses?

My wife and I are partial to Olivino's on Fulton near Washington. They have a small selection of mostly inexpensive wines. Most are sort of fruity, fun wines, but they are certainly respectable and they carry some Long Island, New York State and New Jersey wines.

Thanks. Do they have liquor, or just wine?

I don't remember any liquors, they have some ports and dessert wines though.

A-ha, now I finally know what's going into that storefront. It's been bugging me for months and months. Taking their sweet time!

Yeah, that place seems to be moving right along -- what a horrible sign out front. I'm glad to know that it's the one liquor store moving rather than a new one opening up -- that's all we need.

They're making a killing there. Actually, the wine selection is not bad at all and they are happy to let you in back to peruse their selection more closely.

To the original poster ... what about Greene Grape? They stock a smallish selection of high quality liquors in addition to their excellent wine selection.

Oh yeah, you're right. I was thinking Greene Grape only had wines, but I do recall there being a small liquor collection. Thanks.
