Does anyone attend this church? After almost 2 decades without setting foot inside a church for anything but weddings I'm going to check this out http://www.parkslopeumc.org/docs/worship/taize.html tonight I think. I'm a bit intimidated but this seems pretty low-key... will I see any of you there?

My downstairs neighbor goes to Sunday services there and he says he finds them very welcoming.

Good to hear :) I don't know if I'm ready to jump into a sunday service quite yet, but I'm considering it. After growing up in the south I have a really horrible taste left in my mouth by the baptist religion (and the holy rollers, and the kids telling me I was going to hell because I wasn't involved in the lunch prayer meetings, and the home-ec teacher telling me I wasn't allowed in her class unless I participated in prayer with the rest of the class...) Yech.

i went to their xmas services b/c it was the only local non-catholic church that had a family service early in the evening. it was lovely and very welcoming. maybe a bit too hippy-dippy for my regular taste, but it was a very nice experience.

I'm a southerner too, although was able to avoid the holy rollers for the most part....

What about the Methodist practice is different than other protestant denominations? I am just curious. John Wesley, correct? But what did he espouse that set his flock to differentiate from others?

Again, just looking to be educated. no agenda.
