Being that I'm on a posting frenzy today...

What high speed internet do you use in CH?

Time Warner is great, but not available in this area. I have Cablevision and am about to kill them as they call me every other day trying to get me to get to get the Triple Play. Yeah, we all know - 877-393-4448
Is Verizon Fios any good? Are there any other options?

As far as I know, no other options, besides Verizon DSL.

Opt online is available. I use Verizon DSL. As far as I know, FIOS is N/A.

Subject: Verizon DSL in Crown Heights?

I called Verizon and gave my address (on St. Marks Ave) and they said DSL is not available in my neighborhood. I thought that I've seen posts on here where people in CH claim to have DSL. I wondered what company provides it. I'm having major issues with Cablevision and I'm looking for a way to get high speed internet with ANYone other than Cablevision.

I live on Park Place in Crown Heights and have Verizon DSL. I can't understand why it wouldn't be available on St Marks.

Which streets do you live between? Maybe I can type in a building address into their website to see if the results are different than mine.

that's crazy. i input a few different addresses from around the neighborhood. for some reason St. Marks Ave doesnt have DSL between Rogers and New York Ave. Frustrating

I understand not too long ago Verizon ran out of slots for DSL over here.
You can try my ISP http://acedsl.com. They are third party using Verizons backbone.

It may also be that you are too far away from the switch. I think it is on Schenectady and Crown or used to be. So from Park to St Marks might be over the limit.

ok, I checked the loop length and it is about 7200 ft to the school. The limit is 15000, so your good. I'd call ace and see what they tell you.

I contacted ACE DSL. unfortunately they can't help me out because Verizon hasn't run fiber on my block nor on Bergen Street. I wonder why they ran it everywhere else but on my block and Bergen? Well, at least it only took me 8 years of living in NY to be officially frustrated by cable monopoly.

Thats odd for sure. I don't get why they would tell you there is no fibre on your block when DSL runs on the POTS backbone.
AN alternative is to find someone on an opposing block with line of sight and pay to piggyback on their wifi.
PS, I'd stay far away from cable for net. The tier things are coming and alot of people are going to get very upset.

Yeah I don't know why they'd tell me that either. I think it's sort of weird that when I check adjacent blocks, or even the SAME block (St. Marks), it's available just one block away on every side. Makes me wonder if for some reason there's a glitch regarding the records for the numbers on this block of St. Marks. Is anyone on this board on St. Marks between Rogers and New York and who has DSL from Verizon? If so please let me know.

As soon as I can get away from Cable (and Cablevision for that matter) I am. They're the worst cable company I've ever had to deal with.
