Bob Dylan tomorrow night...

Hey Guys:
Don't forget about the sold-out Bob Dylan concert tomorrow night in Prospect Park...we can listen from afar....

They often put a black screen around the bandshell at paid events -- which seems supremely ungenerous when it's an immediately sold out event...

And indeed there is now a ~7 foot green fence around the outside of the inside, and gates set up on both sides of the loop road, presumably to keep people out of the street.

Still, those things are usually loud enough to hear from some distance away.

I plan to go the park anyway and try to find a good spot to hear something. however as anyone who has seen dylan in the last 10 years probably knows his live show/singing has gone way down hill. i am one of the biggest dylan fans you will ever meet but after my last experience i can no longer justify paying to see him live. However tomorrow will probably be a nice day again and would be cool to hear messed up renditions of old favorites drifting through the air. the guy is a living legend after all.

For those of us with tickets, there are now conflicting reports of a 7pm or 8pm start...plan accordingly...me, I'm leaving work soon...it is going to be a madhouse!

Do you guys think showing up at 6PM is early enough to stake out a good lawn seat?

I just got back. I rode my bike down there at the last minute. Was pretty cool, there sure where a lot of people there. To be honest I spent the first 20 minutes before the show started trying to find a way to sneak in. I considered jumping the small fence and than quickly climbing the larger fence which would have conveniently landed me behind some porter potties for a smooth relaxing walk into the paid lawn section. However I decided I did not really feel like spending the night in jail so I did the next best thing. I climbed up a big tree and from there I could see the stage and hear very well.

Like a rolling stone was definitly the highlight, he almost sang comprehensively for that one, lay lady lay and rainy day women where also pretty cool to hear. To be honest I did not even recognize "its all right ma" until I caught one of the lyrics half way through the tune. that is one of my favorite songs too. anyway, nothing cooler than taking a 5 minute bike riding and getting within a hundred yards of one of your hero's for free! got to love brooklyn!

We had lawn tickets, and after standing on a huge line for OVER A FREAKING HOUR, we were not let in, because my friend and I had cameras in our bags!!!

I am absolutely furious. On our tickets, it said, "no coolers, no lawn chairs", Ok, FINE, but NOTHING about cameras. Not only that, but they were letting people in with cel phone cameras, just not "real" digital cameras, which I own, and it's always in my bag. I have never been refused entrance anywhere, not even state buildings, because of my camera.

We were told to "go put them back in the car". We rode bikes, WE LIVE HERE.

I am embarking on a letter writing campaign tomorrow, we paid $66. EACH to hear Dylan, and I'm not eating that.

We ended up selling the tickets at a $40. loss a few minutes before showtime, and hung around outside the ridiculous fence. Heard mush.

So. Pissed. Off. :evil:

Stayed home in a nice air conditioned apartment, drinking a cold beer and listened to my Best of Dylan album. No stress.

Saw lots of people with cameras caught in the same security mess.

I'm glad I left mine at home -- when in doubt, it's always best to roll to a concert with minimal stuff in tow.

we had our camera and they really didn't search the bags too well. you could've of stashed them in there i guess, unless if you had a sweet, larger SLR. "No cameras" should've been on the tickets, I agree.

Show was great, excellent song selection and rearrangements of classics and good selection and execution of the new tunes. a great nite in Brooklyn.

Oh, the woman security guard reached deep into my backpack, stuffed with a blanket and a hoodie, to yank my neoprene encased camera all the way out of the bottom of the bag. She was letting other people in with cameras, "silver" cameras. like an Elph, but ours were "black", therefore "professional". I am not making this up!

What a load of crap. She then said, only "digital" cameras could go in. Ours ARE digital, but the "black" color precluded entrance. Camera racism, anyone? Really, it's funny, but not, because we were cheated out of a once in a lifetime experience by a totally ignorant asshat. Not to mention we paid for tickets!

Not bring my camera to an outdoor concert? Sure, if I had known in advance. Otherwise, of course I'm bringing it!

They could have had banks of small lockers for this type of situation. I would gladly have paid a few bucks to store my camera for a few hours, and be let in. sigh.

Oh man, that BLOWS! I am so sorry to hear about the camera fiasco. I'd be pissed to the hilt, too.

last year at the manu chao concert (who happens to be pretty paranoid about his concerts showing up online), they wouldn't allow my wife in because of our prosumer slr camera, so we ended up scalping the tickets for $100 for both.

God, I REALLY hate that no-camera rule. I carry my camera (digital SLR) with me everywhere, but am always bummed to have to leave it at home when I'm heading out to a show.

I was once refused entry to another outdoor event at McCarren Park Pool because I had my little 20+ year-old film SLR with me, while there was no problem with others bringing in their Canon G8 P&S cameras, which, arguably, take pictures very comparable to film cameras if well-lit (and if anything, have an even larger "commercial" edge since the digital format is so quickly processed). I wound up having to give the battery to the guard (not the first time), and was fortunate to find him again and get it back on the way out.
