poster frames

so i just got back from visiting a friend on cape cod and she gave me this awesome huge nautical map of the gulf of maine that i want to get framed and hang up. the only problem is that it's 36 x 44 inches. aka HUGE. i'd like to not spend a small fortune to get this framed but also understand that framing stuff costs a pretty penny no matter what. anyone have any suggestions (i don't mind buying an old frame) on where i could go in the area, any places that offer decent deals on framing or frames?? or any ideas at all for that matter....

    Target has premade poster frames, I think in styles varying from "Dormroom chic" to "Inoffensive". I don't know if 36X44 is a standard size, but that might be a good place to start, because a professional framing job for something THAT big might cost a prettier penny than any in your coin collection.

    In fact, this reminds me that I need to pick up an 18x20 for a print that I bought months ago. Doh! :)

    1) look at Ikea I got poster frames there pretty cheap.

    2) do it yourself. Go to someplace like Pearl and buy the some aluminum sections, have them cut the glass and get some cardboard for the back

    try american frame online.

    you can buy sections (like at pearl) so that you get a custom size, and they will give you a free mat (cut to the dimensions you specify). "glass" part is plexi, which will help it not weigh 9000 pounds, but careful of scratching it.

    nautical charts are the bee's knees.

    I just went through this when I had to frame a (yeesh) Jesse McCartney poster for my daughter's birthday.

    Pearl Paint - http://www.pearlpaint.com/ - has a framing store (lower Manhattan) where you can buy inexpensive poster frames in many different sizes. I got a large one for 16 bucks.

    Michael's usually has some cheapo stuff. I've gotten a poster frame or two there. There is one in Staten Island and one in Queens. Although Pearl really sounds like the way to go to me. FWIW.
