So what's the scoop - are people sticking around the neighborhood this weekend? I usually take off and do my own thing, but I think this year I'm going to be here for the whole thing. Just curious about what folks are doing - I know on Monday 3 million people are expected in the hood.

No, I shamelessly stole it without credit.

I didn't take the one in your avatar either.

yea, she's pretty amazing and has had a super productive career. i actually had the chance to check out the prom and twin pictures in person a couple of weeks ago - they're 20"x24" polaroids. sick.

    re: j'ouvert

i had a great time last year, but i thought i was going to pass out waiting for it to start. seems like not much happened until 4 or 4:30, regardless of what the schedule said.

is that pretty much the norm? i'm thinking i'll just get up really early this year, instead of staying up all night and then being too tired to hang out for more than an hour.

Yeah, I was thinking of taking a nap from late evening to about 3am and then heading out.

So where/when is the best place/time to catch some steel bands?

...seems like every year that I finally wander up to Eastern Parkway it's all big trucks with sound systems....

j'ouvert is all steel bands. there aren't many (if any) at the main parade.

If there;s one good reason to get out of the hood, if not all of Brooklyn this weekend, it's the West Indian Day Parade.

Nonsense! The West Indian parade is awesome!

Sterling 2k, here's info on seeing steel bands if you don't feel like staying out until the wee hours on Sunday night:

Well, that looks like fun. Better than any blastin' soundsystem on a semi anyday.
