> Neighborhood Watch: Siberia in Crown Heights? —

2008_9_siberia.jpgEver since the red light went off above that West 40th Street doorway, media professionals and minor celebrities have been wondering where Tracy Westmoreland would reopen his legendary dive bar, Siberia. Would you believe...Crown Heights? "I'm interested—and this is going to sound crazy—I'm interested in Crown Heights," he tells Chris Shott. "Williamsburg is fucking over. It's time to break new ground." [NYO]

I remember that bar. I went there a couple of times when it was on 40th Street. Don't know if a dive bar would be that great in Crown Heights since we already have a couple but hey, if it works, it works.

Ahhh yes, that is one kind of dive bar that we do not have. It would be a good alternative for all the rockers in the nabe.

i played a bunch of times at the one on 40th... and before that, when it was in the southbound 50th st. 1/9 station! Good old shithole siberia. it'd be entertaining to have here.

Personally, I'd rather Tracy reopen Bellevue rather than Siberia out here, but I suppose that's nitpicking. Either would be fantastic -- though I did get a bit of a "HUH?!" out of the tone in Grub Street's post about this yesterday. Like Crown Heights was the outer boonies. Not sure where they've been lately...

thank you - I was wondering why everyone was saying 40th St, when I remember the one by the 1/9 train
