....is, what? It's gonna rain most of the time and I still want to find something fun to do in the nearby area. What's going on? Obama rallies, Palin protests, great stuff at the Museum, anything? Thanks....

If you are a fan of Coney Island then this might be for you. This weekend is the last one for Astroland which is one of the amusement parks that make up Coney Island. Not sure if there is anything special planned but I'm sure that there will be a lot of people there to see it's last weekend.

Just heard on the news that Astroland will not be open this weekend. Protesters are going to be there to get them to open it for the last weekend of the season.

I heard something this morning about permanent closure of the park...is this possible?!?! This would be not good.

Where did you hear this? All the current stuff I can find still says that it is closing on Sunday.

They've been threatening to close for quite awhile. It _sounds_ like this is the final straw. Deno's (Wonderwheel) is planning to be there next summer still, and the Cyclone is protected and will be there whatever. Thor had all those wildcat rides out there this summer, which is interesting. But I always like the Astroland single park ticket type thing and all, so that will be missed.

Well, there's this thing call the NFL FOOTBALL SEASON that kicked off last night, so that's what I'll be doing on Sunday.

    GO CHIEFS!

(No comments about our opponent this week...I know, I know...)

Astroland died Sunday - a casualty of Coney Island's changing future. She was 46.

The world-famous amusement park was locked its gates around midnight - a closing time that was pushed back twice because of the huge crowds that turned out for a final romp at the gritty landmark.
