New to the 'hood (lefferts gardens). I'm looking for a good gym with decent equipment. I mainly use free weights and cables but do use some machines. I use the treadmill, eliptical, and other cardio machines too. Showers are probably a must (i'd like to avoid gang showers), and a sauna would be nice. I'm not looking to pay an arm and a leg. What are my options? Is there Y nearby?

    google the Brooklyn Rec centers.
Don't be afraid for $75 a year you can go to anyone in the city (INCLUDING the 212)
some have Olympic size swimming pools and showers.

Is there a gym on or near 18th Ave, anywhere near the F train line that stops there over to Coney Island Ave?

To answer EmmaViz's question, I think the closest one would Spartan Gym on Coney Island Avenue near Ave H. It's next to the Kent Movie Theater, if I'm not mistaken. I was thinking of joining since they were offering a quite low membership rate, but never did take the plunge.

If you dont mind getting out of the way a lil bit. I highly recommend Dolphin gym on 86th street. Their prices are unbeatable and the gym got everything you need...

never heard of the brooklyn rec centers tho.

I also recommend using a website that I used to find a workout partner in my own gym. www.MyWorkoutSpot.com

    Take care
