Im tired of walking around Park Slope and seeing all these litle over privleged white boy thug wannabees with gang flags hangin out there pockets. You parents need to keep a closer eye on your kids. Gang bangin aint a joke, you try getting beat down by 6 people for 3 minutes for initiation. Teach your kids about real life. Gangs get you no where except a grave

I think that you're reading way too much into this. If you knew more about the lives of this type of kid you'd see that their interest in gang life does not go beyond fashion and music. If they were faced with bona fide violent criminal activity, they'd back off in a second.

I agree with you, as far as the concept of the true threat of violence from the uberprivileged children. I agree with clydelocc, as far as idea that parents _do_ have a responsibility to teach their children that emulating criminals, even if they aren't _actually_ criminals, is rather NOT cool. And, in fact, lame.

    Uh-huh.

Not that _all_ wannabes are lame. Some are amusing.

I've seen these little punks tagging all over Park Slope. And I know the cops are keeping an eye out for them.

because they're young and stupid and think this stuff--shit that could get them, say, killed--is cool?

Before you could say 'gypsy scum' we were knee-deep in dog muck, thieving kids and crusty jugglers.

Park Slope didn't used to be a joke either, until recently.

If you would've visited us on 9th St and 7th Ave about 15yrs ago though, you would've found out that white boy gangs can be very very serious.

Various members of the Hamill clan have written about the gangs of the Park Slope area ... Tigers, Golden Guineas, South Brooklyn Boys, etc. etc. going back 60 years or so. Nothing new here. Except for the apparent financial situation of the wannabees' parents.
