bergen street

has anyone noticed how beautiful the strip of stores along bergen between flatbush and 5th have become? it's a gem.

there is another new shop or two (one now painted purple) to add to the beautifully colored stores of babeland, organic heights, bump, private stock, etc...

i just stopped and stared the other day when i walked by and thought i'd pass it along if you haven't been by in a while...

I was talking to one of the folks at Organic Heights, and they talked about how there's really this effort for that stretch of street to recall an older bock in the West Village, as well as their hopes for a permanent anchor store in the temporary space that was once part of Pintchik.

I agree that it's a lovely little block now.

I love that block. I'm so excited that my growing pregg-o belly is finally big enough to go shop at bump. I love that place. Plus, it's so close to Babeland... 2 birds, 1 stone. *grin*

It is awfully convenient that they're close. It's like the "before" and "after" effect in the world of shopping.

Kinda OT but I came out of the train and weas walking down Bergen toward 5th when I was met with a WHALING three year old sceaming "I want MAMA, MAMA MAAAAMAA!" and trying to bolt from her thirty-something fathers grasp to run into babeland.

He just kept muttering Mama will be out in a minute and tryiugn to restrain her, like half a foot from the front door.

It was pitiful.

I couldn't help thinking that, yes, at some point it is time to pack it in, get a house in Jersey and acknowledge that yes, you are becoming your parents, but hey, maybe that isn't so bad.

I live on this block and it rules! Every day, walking home, I'm like, wow, what a lovely small stretch. I love the little space between Unnameable Books and the rowhouses too, even.

North Slope is the bomb.

What is the name of that pregnant/kid place on the corner of union and I think 6th Ave? Is it still there?

By the way, that sub shop on Bergen is amazing. Wish it wasn't such a far walk for me. Excellent (HUGE) sandwiches.

that's my block too and I remember when it was just gross store fronts mostly taken up by the POCC. The shops there are cute (good book store) and all (aside from the Gymboree) seem to be run by small business owners. Definitely check it out if you haven't been up here in a while. And grab some food at Melt. The owner is great and the food is delicious.
