New Patties Place

Anyone see the new Jamaican patty place that looks like it just opened/or about to open on Vanderbilt, on the same block as Indigo Lounge?

Called Mrs. T's or something like that. It looks nice. When I walked by, I didn't see anyone at the counter but there is a sign for beef/chicken/vegy, patties. Could be a nice addition to the neighborhood, especially as everytime I good to Hibiscus for a patty they are sold out.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Nalani's? (it's right next door)

If that place were open late, it would be awesome in combination with Indigo!

maybe I'll take a stroll down there today. I was going to do a sweep of Washington this afternoon and then trudge down Vandy from the Pacific end as part of my twice-yearly sweep of the nabe. :)

    oh, and I'm hungry.

Had a veggie patty there last week, y'all, and it was pretty tasty. Better than Christie's, which ain't sayin' much. Price was $1.50. 'Tis a bit more than you'll pay at Patty Central—a.k.a. Nostrand Avenue—but not bad if yer hankerin' for a nibble.

When the heck is it open? I've stuck my head out of my shop to see at all hours, but have only seen it open very late one Friday night, which does me no good. Does anyone know if they have regular hours? :?

okay, I tried their veggie patty today. not half bad. not as good as 3Ds but I'll definitely try to go back to this place. they also have a menu of standard west indian food, and say that they'll be open til 10 p.m., which makes them ideal for indigo. :)

I also tried both the beef and veg patties tonight, the veg was delish, the beef, I wasn't that crazy about. I met Patrick, the owner, and he says they're still ramping up, but will be open from 9am to 9pm, eventually later on weekends. They're still building the steam table set-up. I love patties, and am really glad he re-opened on Vanderbilt. He used to be in the spot where Half is now, years ago.

where exactly is this place located, and anyone know the hours on Sunday? I have friends coming to the nabe for brunch and want to take them to west indian. Was going to suggest the islands but the service there has been too sporadic for me (plus the one time I ate there it took over an hour to be served). If anyone has other recs please post.

If you've got friends coming from elsewhere, you've got to take them to The Islands. I know the service is slow, but the food is so much better than everywhere else. Maybe if you order in advance over the phone... (haven't tried this for eat-in, but it might be worth a try). The new patties place near Indigo isn't really an eat-in kind of place. Obviously Carneviento is always an alternative (totally different and not West Indian, but also a great feature spot of the nabe).

there are a few places on washington - ginger root and the place directly across the street - that appear to have tables. I haven't tried either of these places, though I hear ginger root delivers.

Ginger Roots food is great, but the wait is crazy long. I was feigning for a good West Indian breakfast so I called and ordered breakfast and they told me 30 mins. When I got there they told me another 15 mins more. 45 mins for saltfish and bake is way too long.

On the flipside they are really nice and the food is great. You just have to be extremely patient and not hungry!!

just came back from Ginger Roots. tried to go to The Islands at 1pm, but they weren't yet open for business. Ginger Roots was really good. We got the chicken rotti, rosemary chicken, and oxtail. everything was great and the staff was really friendly. thanks for the recommendation :D
