applewood attack?

holy moley...this is crazy!

An OTBKB reader and resident of 11th Street wrote in with this report of a violent incident last weekend in front of Applewood.

Apparently an elderly resident of 11th Street was attacked with a bike chain. The OTBKB reader didn't actually see the attack but she saw the man bleeding and looking on the ground for his glasses.

The OTBKB reader reports that she did speak with another person, who witnessed the attack, which occurred because the older man asked a bike rider not to chain his bike to a certain street sign. According to this witness, the biker hit the elderly man, calmly locked his bike across the street and went into Applewood.

The OTBKB reader was there when the police arrived, went in and came out with the biker who had changed into different clothes. They put him in the cop car. According to her report, a chef came out and started to argue with the police. A woman came out of Applewood saying: "This is ridiculous!" Someone said, "He hit that old guy in the head, he's bleeding," and she snarled back "He deserved it!"

All the kitchen workers were out watching.

According to the OTBKB reader, the injured man had a couple of big gashes on the side of his head and blood running down his face and neck and his shirt was bloody. EMS arrived and she left.

Has anyone else heard anything about this incident?

If this is true, I'm boycotting Applewood. That is a disgusting and immoral way to behave by the owners. :evil:

Wait do we know if the guy worked at Applewood or who he was?

This is all speculation at this point.

I happen to know one of the chefs there and I hope to have to actual information shortly.

IS OTBKB just a shill (sp?) for people/companies she likes? Her "insider" info is a PR person's wet dream!! "The band is costing the company $3,200.00" awww. That's a 10 billion dollar company.

That is awful about the attack; and I can't believe someone had the nerve to change clothes afterwards. That's so damm criminal.

Jeeeze...is the victim OK? The biker needs psychiatric help or jail time. If Applewood tries to protect thugs and potential murderers, I'm not eating there.

I would definitely like to know more details about this. I can't imagine why that Applewood woman would have snarled "he deserved" to get wacked in the head with a bike chain! Why the biker hit the older man to begin with isn't even worth pondering. People are becoming more like animals every day.

Apparently the guy who attacked the biker/waiter was a neighborhood crazy named Leo who was grabbing at the guy's because Leo didn't want it chained to a no parking sign. The guy felt threatened and told Leo to stop, and he didn't, so he defended himself by hitting him with his bike lock because Leo wouldn't let go of his bike.

i think the charges were dropped, but I'm not 100% sure.

weird, b/c the brooklyn paper says the old guy was from westport, ct, which is a far commute for a "neighborhood crazy." And, I would like to know if the people mentioned in the story are the Applewood owners, b/c it still sounds like a nasty response to the situation to "snarl, 'he deserved it.'" b/c some old guy touched someone's bike.

A neighborhood "crazy" or a guy from Westport, Conn. according to the Brooklyn Paper? Either way, the biker a**hole did not have a right to hit anyone much less an older man with a freaking bike chain. And screw Applewood if they did say that.

Does anybody know the owners or people who work at Applewood? I'd love to hear more about this.

I've never eaten at Applewood, but the only reason people are associating the owners with the incident is because of a blog entry. I'm not going to boycott Applewood because of what a blogger said - don't even know if it's true.

I walked by as this was happening. The way it was told on the the blog is just what I saw and a lot of other people saw it too. I've never seen the guy that got hit before but he was really bloody. And the woman that came out of the restaurant did say " he deserved it "in a pissed off way.

If I feel threatened, I try to run from the threat and call the cops, not smack people in the face with chains.
