I just came from there. The place looks great and the selection is a lot bigger.. I also heard Sam say that they only have about 50% of the inventory in at this point. For the kinds of things I buy (veggie stuff, a lot of Amy's and soy products, organic pasta etc..) it's great. As for prices, it seems more expensive on certain items, and less on others.. hard to tell at this point. Definitely psyched!

I was away this weekend, but are the old letters posted? ...was this piece of Prospect Heights preserved?

I went yesterday with the hubs and got everything we needed to make a mean veggie chili except an onion and green pepper, but that's only because they don't have produce yet. Prices are good for most things (a box if macaroni is the same as the grocery store, same goes for canned beans), steep for others (our biodegradable dish detergent is $5 there, but $3.5 at Met). Store is great looking, can't wait to go back when they're fully stocked.

This is a great looking story but its totally overpriced. A bottle of "Simply Pure" lemonade is 4.99. At Met Food over Vanderbilt, the same bottle of lemonade is $2.79.

A gallon of Deer Park water is 2.00 at St. John's market. At Met, its $1.49.

And I refuse to pay $4.99 for a pint of Haagen Daz when I can buy 2 pints for 5 bucks at Met...or at least find it in the nabe for $3.99.

Its a beautiful market, but i know a price-gouging situation when I see one...

    Don't forget--we're in a recession.

I will continue to refer to Sammy's place as SOC ATED.

Some things may be overpriced compared to larger grocery stores, but I think that's the nature of bodegas and corner stores in general.

Last night I bought a half gallon of Stoneyfield Organic milk for $4.99 - the same as I pay at Met, a bunch of organic banananas for $2.49 - the same as I'd pay for the same weight at the grocery. I also happened to pick up a box of frozen waffles (pregnancy craving, what can I say?) for $3.99 - less than I pay for the same multi-grain waffles at Met. Generally it seems to even out in the items I buy.

Plus, those guys are so damn nice.
