looking to rent Apt Nov/ Carroll Gardens/ Cobble $2000

If anyone knows sources to rent an apt with out using a broker- if you know landlords, or buildings (perhaps you've heard of an opening in your own building) I would so appreciate the lead. I'm looking to spend no more than $2000 a month for a one or so bedroom apt.
If you happened to have heard about an apartment (1 or 2 br) opening up in your building I would be so grateful for your help!!
