another soda absurdity?

went to soda tonight to treat myself to one of their big burgers. i like 'em medium rare, but it arrived severely undercooked. the barmaid was very cool about sending it back, but then i was shocked when they redelivered the same burger! am i out of line, or is it reasonable to expect a new burger?? i had taken several bites and mangled it pretty good to discover how raw it was, so curious how they managed to reconstruct it. not a big deal, but just a matter of principle for good service. but i'm not sure as i don't think i have ever had this issue before (burgers are often overcooked, not the other way around) and never send food back. open to being told i am wrong...

If you ordered a burger and it was undercooked, why is it unreasonable to expect that they would just cook it a little bit longer and return to you?

i might be reading wrong but i think they're saying is they just gave the burger back without doing anything do it.

sorry, i gotta go with king without a crown here. the idea of them making an entire new burger would never even occur to me. just cook the undercooked one a bit more, makes sense eh?

Glad the woman that served you was nice about it and sorry your burger sucked, but:

1)Who uses the term "barmaid" anymore? It's from like the 17th century.

2)If you care deeply about your burgers, don't go to Soda. There are plenty of places around that will have your burger cooked just how you want it. Try Homage on Park Place.

You absolutely have the right to send back your food and if it wasn't returned right, walk out and not pay the check. Note: don't finish the food or you are committing theft of service.

I would have thought that removing the meat, and putting it on the grill would compromise the hygiene of the kitchen. Maybe I'm fussy but I think if someone has started eating something, it should not be returned to a commercial food prep area, it should go in the trash and a new item prepared. Then again where I come from they won't wrap your food to go if you haven't finished it - that would also be against the health code on the grounds that you might not refrigerate it properly for several hours.

sounds like a big waste of food for no purpose. a grill should be plenty hot enough to eradicate any slobber-borne bugs, and given how huge restaurant portions tend to be, i'd be pissed if i couldn't take part home. refrigerating it or not is my own lookout.

Homage got shitty reviews on Yelp. The burger at Beast is pretty good.

You had taken "several" bites out of it. 5,6? Got to the middle and it was pink? That's what medium rare is. You wanted it cooked more, and that's fine, but if you ate close to half, then no, you would not fall under the category of a fresh new burger.

Australia. The portions are not so huge that you can't finish them in a single seating. You're not expected to tip either, athough most people round up in a decent restaurant (not in a greasy spoon though).

they'd put the plate in the oven or on the salamander...if they put it back on the grill it would make it tough on the outside...

expect a new burger if its OVER cooked...
whats wrong with further heating it when its UNDER cooked?

depends on the how seriously the place takes their level of service

meat tends to get tougher with each application of heat so if yours was sititing around for a while and was subsequently RE-heated, it would compromise the quality of the meal

that being said, next time poke a hole in the middle before you start to eat

I wouldnt expect a new burger.

But in the future, if you want a good burger just go to Bonnies and be done with it.

i would have assumed a new burger as well. If you go to a fastfood place and they fuck up your food they throw it away and make a new one...they don't just recook it or put new stuff on it.

It seems weird to peel off someone's ketchup, lettuce, etc. to put it on a grill and then reassemble.

i agree with you... although i wouldn't be shocked if that isn't what happened either. but i would have assumed the opposite.

yeah the last time I ate there with a friend on a fried fest
the fish and chips and onion rings came out cold. We politely mentioned it to the server who was apologetic, but then returned with Microwaved fried food.

Rubbery fried fish and onion rings. Nasty.

Oh Soda. So close to a cool bar, and yet...

i gotta say Ive never had any problems with Soda.

maybe slow service and a buck or two overpriced but the foods always been decent bar food.

and they have 3 dollar tecate.
