Joshua Bernstein wrote this in his NY Press story on PH. Does anyone know anything about this? From his story it sounds like it will be on Washington.

Maybe they will serve bagels. Wash'n badly needs this staple. I currently get mine imported from my inlaws in NJ. That really should be like bringing coal to Newcastle, but pathetically it is not.

was hoping something like that would be put in on the corner of park n washington where Thriftway was, but I suppose it'll be a Dr office now, something's going on across the way under the "Au Bon Soire" sign, who knows?

Someone on another thread mentioned New World Coffee opening up on Washington next to the Ginger Root.

Maybe this espresso selling shop will actually have a good barista. I can count the number of good espressos I've had outside Europe on one hand. It's not for lack of wonderful machines, it's because most of the people using them haven't learned how to coax a beautiful shot out of them.

There is a new sign up for a "java" store going in at the old Biscuit Restaurant site next to Key Foods on Flatbush...

Ballsy to go that close to Prospect Perk, on Flatbush & Sterling, not to mention Heights Coffee just down a block or two.

There's a chance that Sepia on Underhill is going to start a Sunday brunch, too. (fingers crossed)

any clue how they'll pull that off legally? I don't think they have a kitchen. I mean, I love sepia but ... no kitchen ...

they have a very small, one-person prep kitchen, to the left of their espresso machine. Delissa has been serving Sunday dinners off and on for months -- nothing fancy, but always tasty.

your icon = freaking me out

not sure that'll support Sunday Brunch. I mean, that's a really important business in NYC. I know what I expect when someone offers it .. maybe if she just serves quiche and frittata or something.

The only way I could see a brunch in there is if it's buffet style. I'd roll around the corner one Sunday to check it out if I ever get up early enough.

maybe they could use the kitchen at carl's place, since there's not really much use there now... anyone know someone who could convert that place into a coffee joint? now that's a mighty fine location.

from the looks of the sign of that "jumping java and juice" place going up on Flatbush across from the gym, it seems this will be more of a juicery than coffee shop. The sign is a wee bit obnoxious.

Apparently the new Prospect Heights is all about juice bars and American Apparel.

I can confirm the rumor about the espresso selling coffee shop on Washington. Another thread mentioned a New World Coffee going into the space next to Ginger root on Washington by Prospect.

I walked by tonight and some of the newspaper covering the windows and door was torn away and the lights were on so I got a good look. There was a menu on the wall that very clearly said "New World Coffee" on the top of it.

The place looks like it is almost ready to open and it looks really nice. It has lots of old detail, tin ceilings, etc. which gives the place a really nice look and feel.

Not sure of the opening date but it's definitely coming!

I saw one of the workers out front today, he said the place would be opening up in a week.

You don't have to go to such extremes - Bergen Bagels (Flatbush & Bergen) is excellent.

Also, for those looking for espresso, go to El Gran Castillo. That place is more than just CARNEVIENTO.

They also make a mean cafe con leche. Cheap too.

Do you all really like El Gran Castillo? I live about 8 houses down from it and have tried it ocassionally and havent been impressed at all. They are all really nice in there, but once their egg and bacon breakfast made me a little ill and their coffee is just "eh". Im positive I must be trying the wrong things...because a TON of people I know always rave about the place. Suggestions?
