these guys all read like scam artists. I´m in the middle of an international move, stuck out of the country for visa purposes, and have zero control over this situation. I need the stuff I want stored picked up and stored and then I need the stuff I don´t want hauled out for charity. getting into my apt isn´t an issue -- I´ve made arrangements.

but seriously, if I read anymore lousy websites and cracked out emails from these jerks I´m going to hurl. so, any recs? I´m going to call housing works for the stuff I don´t want but help on the storage front.

and no, I can´t call 800 numbers. these folks are idiots. "we do international moves -- here´s our 800#"

thanks!

So you mean like..."Moving and Storage?"

Don't most local movers (i.e. Oz, Time, Santini etc.) and most larger/international moving companies (Bekins etc.) offer it?

Most of these companies actually have the term "Moving and Storage" in their name (as is the case for all of the above).

Nice to see ya on here from your new locale, btw. Heh, wonder if DH will be persuaded to add an "Ecuador" neighborhood forum. Ha.

yeah, but they´re all on the verge of being scam artists. I think I´m calling manhattan mini-storage - if I store the stuff in inwood, the rates are relatively low and at least I can monitor stuff online, etc.

I´ll work with an international moving co down the line - there are tons of options out of NYC and once I have the stuff in storage I´ll know how much space I need in a container.

    thanks!

and yeah, I made it OK. I´m working on setting up an LJ filter for ecuador updates. needless to say I almost missed the flight on saturday (not cause I was late, either -- thanks, daver) which blew but whatever, it worked out. kittehs are ok, I´m packin´again and all is well in the universe. I´m even eating and not puking! it´s a christmas miracle.

see you guys as soon as I can!

No - I have the guys for you. They moved me twice last year and they have their own storage in Williamsburg. They were awesome. I am going to look up the info for you.

Their website doesn't say anything right off about storage. It has been a year, but I would ask. They will work over e-mail too. Good luck!

When I moved from Australia to New York in 2004 Crown International were wonderful. They came, they packed, they stored, they shipped. I didn't have them get rid of stuff and don't know how that would work. One thing in their favor, they only use employees to do their work, they don't sub stuff out to fly by night operations. In New York I dealt with the following person, who I found to be very helpful and professional:

    Danielle Banks
    Crown Relocations
    200 Mac Lane
    Keasbey, NJ 08832
    1-800-879-3326
    [email hidden]

Given that it's four years since I moved, Danielle may no longer be with the company.

They also arranged for my cats to be boarded for six weeks in Australia at a first class facility, and to be flown to New York and delivered to my new apartment.

I've had good experiences with using Moishe's for my boss' son's stuff. We've used their moving service and he has a storage unit in LIC. They're reasonably priced. They have a location not too far--on Grand btw Park Ave and Flushing, near the Navy yard.
