I need movers for a small short move within Brooklyn next week.

Any suggestions on halfway decent companies?

I had a terrible moving experience with Moshes. It was supposed to be a simple move from the office to the house, but turned it a fiasco on my stoop. They would not listen on how the desk needed to fit in the door and after wiggling it for an hour and scratching the sides, they finally gave up and wanted to leave it on my stoop. Even told me to do it myself. To make a long story short, it eventually fit the way i had described it. Then, when paying, they wanted me to pay an additional price for travel, hourly rate, and gas on top of the quoted "moving price".

Can't rightfully recommend the shysters. Good luck with the move.

I've had two good experiences with 'college educated movers'. Search for them on craigslist. You basically email detailing where you're moving from/to and describe how much/what stuff you have, and they'll give you a flat rate. I know some people on here have had negative experiences with them, but I can only speak to the two really good occasions that I've used them.

i used them to move my kiln from harlem to sunset park.

the guy on email was really friendly and helpful. on moving day, they were late. they called, still late. like and hour and a half late, or more. still, when they finally arrived, they were VERY careful with my kiln.

it took them forever to get to sunset park because they got stuck in traffic, so we didn't have the elevator guy to help us get that kiln (which comes apart in stackable pieces) to the third floor.

i will tell you that these two guys gingerly carried each piece of my kiln three flights up to my new studio, and helped me assemble it. any anger about lateness, etc., dissipated.

i don't know that i would trust them to be on time, but i would trust them to be generous and honest and extremely helpful. plus, willing to work as long as it takes to get the job done. while very annoyed with their tardiness, i was deeply impressed with the way they handled it in the end

We used Big Apple last and won't ever again. They were on time, and fast, but not very careful with our stuff (they rushed), broke some parts of furniture (it wasn't obvious until later when we started going through stuff), and refused some services that were part of our quoted price (taking 2 pieces of furniture apart so they could get into the room we wanted them in).

Flat rate was recommended to me.

They don't have the greatest reviews on Yelp tho.

The best. They come and check out what you have before the move and give you a binding estimate, so there are no surprises. I paid for them to pack for me also, which was beyond awesome.

These guys are not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I used sonic when I moved a year ago...You can google them...Basically, they have an on-line questionaire you fill out and they give you an estimate...

They were really late (About 5 hours), but that was because the truck broke down and they had to rent another...BUT, they were really good about making sure I knew what was going on...They called ~30 minutes before they were scheduled to show and said they were having problems, and called every hour or so with updated status...They sent an extra guy for free (The job was fixed price) to get everything done faster...

All in all, they did a good job in a tough situation...
