davincenzos?

i walked by davincenzos restaurant on 9th ave by prospect ave. the gates are down and a sign says “due to an unforeseen circumstance we will be closed until further notice” sounds strange. i wonder what’s going on.

for a long time that space was for the italian bakery that now moved right behind it down prospect ave. i’m told the bakery and restaurant are both owned by the same guy. so does this mean the bakery will be closed too?

    I saw that today too.

I am guessing that their business wasn't doing well due to the 1/2 price pasta signs that were up for a few weeks, but that's just my guess.

I don't know how the bakery stays in business, their selection is so small.

For Rent signs are up, so guess "temporary closing" is permanent.

i'm guessing ever since enzos opened davincenzos hasn't been doing as well? i never went to davincenzos, but the bakery really wasn't the best and they were both run by the same guy

anyway, it shouldn't be too long until another restaurant or real estate opens there.

i'm hoping for another restaurant. it's a good location. I never ate at da vincenzos ....first, because i knew it was the same people as the bakery and the bakery stinks....second, because the menu didn't seem too inspired - and athough it's fine to serve common fare, the prices seemed a bit high for stuff you could basically get at any Italian place

I was a big fan of DaVincenzos and was very sad to see that they closed!
The quality of their food was nothing like that lousy bakery. I think DaVincenzo's was a little too pricey to make it a regular spot. But MAN was that papardelle dish good!

The bakery...ugh. The times i have gone in there it has smelled like cats. And I have to wonder: do they actually BAKE anything in there? In the morning, the guy is always bringing loaves of semolina bread from his station wagon into the store !

i’m surprised to hear someone say that. for one guy to own two businesses right next door to each other and have one make good food and the other make bad food seems strange. i never tried davincenzos i just know the bakery was not so great

never tried the bakery but got take out from da vincenzos occasionally. It was nothing great, but I don't think I ever had a bad dish from them. Their tomato sauce was pretty good, too.

I asked at the bakery and was told they closed because they weren't making any money

Not suprising, BJ. The gates were down tonight, so I'm still thinking that they were briefly open for either a private party or farewell party

That bakery is horrible. I tried some of the cookies a few times-it tasted like they forgot to add the sugar. Yuck.

I liked DaVincenzo's a lot, but the owner, or manager-whoever-what an asshat. He didn't want to listen to anything anyone had to say about anything, and he had such an attitude whenever you make a suggestion. I once asked him if he'd consider bringing soymilk in for their vegan clientele, for the cappacinos, and he was so rude about it.

That was the last time I ever went in there. Just left a bad taste in my mouth. Never saw many people eating in there.

Crappy wine list. No Italian joint should have YellowTail

While there is almost no excuse to be rude, I find the idea of an Italian restaurant using soy milk to be funny.

I drink soymilk usually although I am not vegan. If you need a soy cappucino that badly then go to Starbuck's or something.

i wonder if dunkin donuts will take that space? i know they've been trying to crack into the WT for a while now.

dunkin donuts? for the longest time there have been no real chain stores on 9th ave. unless you count the post office or the bank. connecticut muffin and the australian pie store are just 2nd branches, not real chains. i guess the cell phone stores are chains now

so i’d consider dunkin donuts quite a change for the avenue. but there are worse things could open there
