LOST DOG - Friendly Pit mix, S. Slope in Prospect Park 12/24

My dog Lola ran away from me when I was walking her the night of Christmas Eve in Prospect Park. The time was about 4:45 pm and we were inside the park, walking along the path that parallels Prospect Park Southwest, at the corner of the park near Bertel Pritchard Square.

Lola is a beloved member of our family. She is a shelter dog and is timid, but very sweet and loving. She is about 3 years old, she weighs 45 lbs (medium-sized). She is a caramel-colored boxer-pit-lab-chow mix, very friendly to dogs and people but may be skittish or scared. She has big beautiful brown eyes. She has a small white patch on her chest and white hairs on her chin. She was wearing a purple harness. Unfortunately no tags. I searched the park for hours and posted many signs. The police at 78th Precinct and Prospect Park police have her fliers.

Please contact me if you know here whereabouts or have seen her: sakuraamend at yahoo dot com or 917-355-3531.

Thank you.

Make sure to post this in the craigslist lost and found. It may get more traffic or at least some different traffic. I've seen a few lost/found pets reunited there.

I saw your fliers all over the park--hard to miss so hopefully you'll get her back soon.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Did you contact FIDO? I hear they have a huge network who will help look for your dog

Yes, thank you. I am a FIDO member and Bob posted something today on the site with Lola's photo and also sent out an email blast with my contact info.

I went to Animal Control earlier today. There were many beautiful dogs but Lola was not among them. It made me so sad to see the dogs locked up. I hope Lola is in a safe place and that I find her soon.

I really appreciate your advice, thank you again.

also suggest contacting all local vets and posting fliers in all vets and pet food stores.

So sorry to read about this.. especialy around this time of year.

I once "lost a dog" and a week later she was found. The details still bring such terrible feelings I can't even tell you the story even now but the outcome was great. So keep reaching out with posters and postings and whatever else and know many of us share the prayer or wish or positive thought that you will be re-united with your dog.

That's very reassuring. I am glad your dog was found. I hope Lola will be found, too. I am so worried about her. I just hope she is somewhere safe and is being taken care of. Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts.

I just saw a dog tied up to a meter near the park. I got excited, but it wasn't Lola (the owner was in the pharmacy....the good news is that now you have another dog owner on the hunt for Lola. I told her to keep her eyes open).

You should also call the parks department and see if they can put the word out to their workers.

I just saw your other post. I'm so glad Lola was found.

Please do put some tags on her and consider microchipping just in case she gets any more crazy ideas

    LOLA HAS BEEN FOUND! (Re-posting)

I picked up Lola this evening from a young woman who found Lola alone in front of my building. Apparently, while I was frantically seaching for her in the park, Lola crossed two busy streets and returned to our apartment on her own. She waited for me at the top of the stoop. This young woman saw her and asked people passing by if they knew Lola, but no one had any information. Being a dog owner herself, she didn't want to take Lola to the shelter so she decided to take her in.

She fed Lola and kept her inside in her apartment for the past three days. She saw called me after seeing one of my fliers this afternoon.

Other than being frightened and not drinking any water for three days, Lola is fine and is resting now.

Thank you for your posts and your words of advice and caring. I'm so heartened by the support of the Park Slope community, and especially by fellow dog owners. Thank you for sustaining my feelings of hope during this difficult time! I'm so happy to share this happy ending with you.

I've learned my lesson and am searching now for information on microchipping.

    Thank you!

    FANTASTIC NEWS!!! :D/ :compress: =D>

give her lots of extra kisses and pats this weekend.

now that we have our happy ending, just make CERTAIN she's got ID whenever you go out. microchipping is great, but bear in mind that not every rescue/vet's office has the proper scanners (there is more than one chip company, and none are compatible with the others). she needs tags, too, or if a collar isn't possible, you can get her a new harness with her name and your phone # embroidered into it, or a little metal plate with your info sewn into it.

oh i am so happy for lola's happy ending

Thank you so much!! I appreciate the good advice. I'm getting her a new collar with her name and phone number embroidered on it.

You may see me tomorrow happily taking down all the fliers I put up!!

Just remember, if you do chip, you need to register or it's useless. I found a cat in the park, took her to the vet, got all excited because she was chipped, but the chip wasn't registered, so it was useless.

I'm sure Lola is happy to be home and would love to tell you the stories of her big adventure. See if you can send her "don't you do that again" vibes.
