OB-GYN Recomendation

Who's got one? Wife needs one. Park Slope/Manhattan is great.

They are UPGRADING the Brooklyn office and it will be awesome come January, but they are working out of a satellite office for the time being which is kinda shitty......New office will be very nice and Manhattan office is OK. The bottom line is the OB's are great!

The Park Slope Midwives are really nice. Midwives are basically the same as OBGYN's in terms of exams, knowledge, etc - to the best of my knowledge they're almost identical to MD's in what they are qualified to deal with, unless there are serious complications with a pregnancy or something like that. They just have a different, generally more personal style.

Sorry Flexi, I should have also said I did a search and I couldn't find any results that were within the last year... thus, why I reposted a question I'm sure comes up a lot.

I like Dr. Maria Betancourt in Manhattan - Madison and 31st or something like that; you can google her. Very experienced, listens, and kind. She does GYN - no OB.

i will again restate what i always do when this topic comes up: while she's one of the most popular ob/gyns in the slope, i wouldn't let dr fuchs go near my cat. pm me for more details if you think you want to see her.

while i've never had a baby, i've also heard from a midwife friend that these people are great.

however, i will state, in reference to the above, that licensed nurse midwifes have a masters in nursing, not an MD, so they're not completely identical.

My OB/GYN is Stacey Rees, and she is absolutely the best doctor (of anything) I have ever had. Period. She's actually a midwife, but she can prescribe medicine and do everything you'd need from an OB/GYN. I don't know if you're looking for general care, or prenatal/birthing care, but she definitely does both (I go for general care - I have no intention of having children any time soon).

I went here based on the recommendation (and because she's one of the only people mentioned here who takes my crappy insurance - Oxford Liberty), but saw the nurse practitioner instead of the doctor. She...did not have the most gentle touch, it was seriously the most uncomfortable exam I've ever had. My pap better come back fine because I'm not sure I can physically take a follow-up with her... But I was able to get an appointment within about a week, which was nice, and I was in and out in 58 minutes, no joke. I was almost disappointed that I had time to go back to work after my appointment.


If I had better insurance I'd go back to Dr. Friedman at Spring Street OB/GYN, though - she was VERY gentle and easy to talk to.

O.K... If you need a spectacular GYN (not OB because I don't think she does this any more but did for a long time ) try Dr. Eden Fromberg. Easy to google the name up.. located in Soho.. Holistic GYN. Truly... The best of the best!!
