I hunted with the Hadzabe in Africa in January. I was a bit scared as they seemed unfriendly and I was told they had poisoned arrows which would kill me if I got poked by them. Anyway, I wasn't able to get my jetlagged butt out of bed early enough for us to hunt for baboon. Instead, the only animal not hiding out from the hot sun at 8:30am was squirrels. They caught two (in only 2 arrow shots out of tall trees) and offered the squirrel for eating to me first. Fearful of an international incident if I declined their honorable offer, I made a joke hoping they would forgive, "Thank you, but I became a vegetarian this morning." Thankfully, they laughed.

[I almost posted a URL to a photo of one of the squirrels on the campfire - which they made in 30 seconds by rubbing sticks together and blowing on the spark - but figured I would get attacked by all the pansies here accusing me of participating in "squirrel murder"...][/img]

    Squirrel is GONE!

I "rented a boyfriend" from a friend and, voila, no more squirrel. I didn't even have to watch. Stella, of course, watched it all

§ 16–113 Removal of night soil and offal. The department is hereby charged with the duty of causing the removal of dead animals, night soil and offal from the thickly populated districts daily, and as often as may be necessary elsewhere, and of keeping the city clean from all matter of nuisance of a similar kind.
    I forgot.
From the NYC Administrative Code. I think you could make the case that Park Slope is thickly populated if not downright obese.

    Subject: confused...

I'm just reading this after the fact (and I really like squirrels) so why not just bury the squirrel? He or she belonged to the neighborhood too? I think we have to stop thinking of our territory as only belonging to humans. My two cents. :)

Our front yard (such as it is) is a rodent graveyard. We buried many gerbils, hamsters and guinea pigs when our kids were young and living at home.

I'd go with something more practical.

I guess putting the body in a couple of black plastic bags and making sure the bags are closed tight and then putting it out with the trash is not an option?

It's a very good option and is what happened, except the bags were white and I didn't do the bagging :-)
