Schools

The often discussed topic--education. My child goes to the neighborhood school. I find myself not being entirely happy with the school and its management. It's early on in his school career, and I could not imagine it for years. I wanted to familiarize myself with other options.

I wondered if anyone had any advice on elementary schools in Brooklyn, the system, and suggestions on other options. Are there other schools I should consider? Can I transfer him to another school in his district? Are there any NYC public school crash courses? I try to be as involved as possible, but I still feel out of the loop.

Thanks so much.

your school should also have a parent coordinator, who is supposed to be a resource. if you get a good feel from your PC, it might be worth talking to him or her.

generally speaking, children go where they are zoned - unless your child is in a special program which is not offered or there is no space at your zoned school (gifted and talented, special ed, etc.), or you move and want to keep your children in the school. There is also some kind of preference given to siblings.

    good luck!
