Super Saver on 7th Ave closing for good!

Signs in the window today, Friday, Jan. 9. Not much left on the shelves. What happened? They were in business for two decades. What a shame.

always tried to go there whenever i could instead of duane reade.

i will miss this place.

this is sad. i much rather shop there than rite aid or the other monsters. another "family" place bites the dust. i just hope a real estate office doesn't move in!

maybe another store selling children's clothing will open there - we don't have enough of those in rhis neighborhood.

That's a shame to see such a long time place close! but, IMO, they were no
Super Savers, I found prices at Neergard's across the street better.

Personally I was hoping for a snazzy cell phone store with bright red Verizon logos plastered across the front. We don't have enough of those either.

As long as Save On Fifth remains open...

They were not always the cheapest, but they carried some household stuff that Neergard doesn't. And I actually found Super Saver's prices often less than Rite Aid's - I once bought some household cleaning product on sale at Rite Aid and then realized the regular price at Super Saver was lower. The store wasn't the best, but far from the worst for household supplies, soap, shampoo, batteries, that kind of stuff.

Sucks. It was a little too far for me to go there regularly, but I always stopped in when I was down that end of the Slope. ["Ooh, I'm near Supersavers."]

Guess that Save on 5th will be my new destination.

I think that Park Slope is in desperate need of another sushi place. I'm sure that's what will go in there :-).

I'm hoping for a realtor. I know I'm foolish to dream, but....

That sucked. Despite the beaten-up appearance of the place that only a New Yorker could love, I always went there. Here's hoping that it won't be another nail salon/nail spa that are the latest scourge here in South Slope.

Yes.

Ok, were you expecting marble floors or something? I've lived in NYC almost my whole life and have never thought Super Savers looked "beaten-up". But that could be because I've been in plenty of stores in neighborhoods not as "nice" as Park Slope.

i'd say it was relatively "beaten up" looking too.

when you compare it to other drug stores, it certainly isn't as fresh looking as a national chain or a neergaards even.

when you compare it to a 99 cent or other discount store, it isn't so beaten up.

problem is...prices lean more towards the former than the latter.

having said that, i love super savers and am very disappointed they are closing. truly.

Please, Super Savers was a mess. Not dirty, mind you, just the typical New York style of 8 bazillion things all crammed together, threadbare carpet, the trap door to the basement that was in the back of the store and sank down every time you stepped on it. _THAT_ kind of mess. If you're not from New York, these kinds of stores take some getting used to.

That said, I shopped there faithfully and liked the place.

i loved supersavers, they always had everything i wanted--and stuff i didn't know i wanted. i didn't think it was messy, i thought it was crowded. and, again, the selection was above and beyond. one stop shopping.

as for the real-estate pics people, and gowanus lounge, are thinking is la tacqueria, i seem to recall the left side being narrower than what's in the pics.
