I'm looking for an Event Space to have a baby shower that's not expensive. Anywhere from 50-100 people. Does anyone know of any spaces? I'm hoping for a comunity center, large basement, or rental space. I want to bring my own food and drinks.

There's a cute event space on Bedford Ave just south of Lafayette Ave. No idea what it's called, but I have walked by and seen other baby showers taking place in there.

Try Akwaaba Mansion. I've used it for a number of events including birthday parties, anniversary parties, etc.

[redacted by mod, see above] No. She is fulfilling her duties as an admin of the board. There are clear rules about transparency for posters who are associated with neighborhood businesses.

I have seen Baby Showers hosted at Rustik on DeKalb. It's a beautiful space with a garden.

Also, Sugar Hill Supper Club on Nostrand Ave. is a large space that you can rent out. Same with the Five Spot on Myrtle.

Also, the Brooklyn Free School just posted about their space on the Bed Stuy Kid list serve:

"Brooklyn Free School recently bought it's own building in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, and has space available for rent at reasonable rates on weeknights, weekends, holidays, and during our summer vacation, which is June 21st - August 31st. The building is a 25 foot wide brownstone mansion at 372 Clinton Avenue, between Lafayette and Greene Avenues, just a half block from the Clinton/Washington stop on the G train, and the B38 bus. The ground floor of the school is approximately 1800 square feet and contains a full sized kitchen. The main rooms on both the ground floor and the second floor are over 450 square feet and can comfortably accommodate 50 people, with 6 folding tables and 60 metal chairs for you to use. Additionally there are two upper floors available with rooms for meetings or classes.

Please contact Alan or Henry at the school if you are interested in renting space, at 718 499-2707."

We had our baby shower at the South Oxford Space. We brought our own food; worked out great. Good luck.
