Hello. I want to make a special cake for an occasion and I need to figure out where I can buy fondant in park slope. Any suggestions?
Specialty bake shops that sell them etc?

I don't know about Park Slope but THE cake supply store in NYC is on the south side of 22nd street just east of 6th Ave. in the city. They have the most amazing stuff for cake makers anywhere. Take the F to 23rd.

I second modsquad's recommendation for a fun field trip, but closer to home you can try Cook's Companion on Atlantic, a couple of doors from Sahadi's. There's also a baking supply place on Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights, near St. Marks Ave. Sorry I don't recall the name of it.

Sahadi's also sells fondant. I noticed it the other night when checking out, it is behind the counter on a wire rack.

Um. What's a fondant? God, someone introduce me to a single, heterosexual chef. Please.

Make that a single, heterosexual pastry chef.

Hey thanks for all the advice! I went there today and bought some fondant! I can't wait to experiment with this stuff! On another note I had the most incredible baklava at a Middle Eastern deli next door...highly recommend it mmmmm.

Make it yourself! Google marshmallow fondant, it's great!

It's also known as "chocolate leather." It is usually used as covering for a cake, like icing, but can be molded and cut into shapes, making it useful for fancy cake decoration like the one above.

YES. I love walking the aisles of that store, it's worth the trip just to look around. It's called the 'NY Cake & Baking Center' and the exact address is 56W22 St.

You can make it very easily and it will taste better. The store bought one is horrible and they sell it in craft stores.
    Ingredients:
    Mini Marshmellows
    Flavoring
    water

    Melt in microwave

    Mix in powered sugar.
