Met food employees trashing the street

This morning I was walking my son to the subway to take him to school. As we passed the Met food on Fulton near St James three employees were opening up the store. One of them tossed his coffee cup into the street in front of us. I asked him if he worked in the store. he said yes. I asked him if there was a trash can in the store. he said yes. I asked him to pick up the cup and throw it out inside. he said yes, but made no move to do so. So I picked it up and handed to him. It is not the first time I have seen employees do that. In the past they have told me they will pick it up "later." I am fully aware that there are different mindsets about trash, and many find it okay to throw random trash into the gutter even when trash cans are within a few feet. I do not agree. I am especially offended when employees of local businesses trash the neighborhood I live in. I plan to speak to the manager at Met Food (not about the particular employee but about the issue in general). Funny that the same store which opposed the BID has employees who seem to think it okay to throw litter on the sidewalk.

When do the BID workers in overalls show up to clean up Fulton St? The tree in front of Golden Krust is in a messy square of sand filled with rotten banana peels and dog crap.

Huh? "those people are animals." Not funny. If you are trying to be sardonic be clearer. If you are trying to provoke a racist flame war bug off.

Thanks for your efforts PD. The only way to address these kinds of issues is through a black association. I know, I've been talking about this for almost ten years and I never do anything about it, but we really need to get organized if we are going to influence local issues like the Grand st. drug issue, street trash, and the Mason's noisy parties.

The block association could have a good neighbor rule:
Anyone who moves to the nabe and calls people "animals" gets run out of town...
or maybe just ignored by all

    how's that sound folks?
    :D

Kevin--I started a thread for this topic. I would like to be a part of a block association in the area as well and I live right around the corner from you.
