What are some good hotels in BK to stay at? Wanting to be able to walk around neighborhoods safely.

I hear Hotel Bleu is pretty nice. My only concern is it's location next to the U-Haul on 6th St & 4th Ave. The Downtown Marriot is decent enough. You might want to try some of the local B&B's.

The Nu Hotel is a good option - lots of restaurants and shopping in walking distance, and the area is quite safe (even at night).

Is there any a bit cheaper?

You get what you pay for. I would go with a B&B if possible. A guy named David Whitbeck runs a decent one on Park Place between Vanderbilt & Unserhill. There's also one at 319 Carroll between 8th & PPW.
