Walking my dogs around 7am this morning, I was deeply surprised to see a HUGE, {est. around 20lbs} dead possum in the road, hit by a car, on Vanderbilt between St. Marks and Bergen. WTF!!!!!

Where did it come from, where did it live, and how the hell did it get so big? :o

I've seen possums and raccoons behind my building. Poor dead guy, live on the streets, die on the streets.

Are you sure those "possums" aren't giant rats?

Yes. I partially grew up in Florida, and saw hundreds of dead possums in the road there. This was the first one I've seen here. It had a head injury, the huge body was intact, and it was not a rat. Vanderbilt is overflowing with all kinds of wildlife. You can feel it.

There's a sighting report of a possum in Dumbo on Curbed this am:

Are we experiencing a plague of them? Are they becoming the new giant rats of Brooklyn?

Please note, WE REPORTED IT HERE FIRST! Now, RUN FOR THE HILLS. They're HUGE.

I believe possums are marsupials. They carry their babies in a pouch, like kangaroos, wallbies, and koalas. Not the same as Rodents.

They had a special asian rodent at the prospect zoo that was as big as a pig but he died last year. They do have wallabies at the prospect zoo i think.
