non-brokers

Just was wondering if there is a way to have people do the leg work for you in finding an apartment w/o them being brokers?? I've heard over and over again that it's unnecessary to pay extra for a broker BUT I do not live in the area. Please help!!

I am a broker but thes days with todays economy most of the apts are a no broker fee apt witch means I collect the fee from the Landlord,
